One way we help is looking ahead. Police Departments who own their subscriber mobile and portable radios should be aware of the FCC requirement to narrowband the present 25 kilohertz channels.

Horizon resources encourages the Chief Officers of our Police Department clients to plan ahead and purchase radios today that can be narrow banded by virtue of reprogramming. Many county operated legacy radio systems have been in use for over 15 years and cannot be narrow banded by reprogramming.

This requires management to perform a complete overhaul of the main infrastructure, a costly and time consuming project; especially for an organization that relies of working communication for public safety.
To maintain system continuity, this change must be accomplished gradually. Beginning the process of changing their radios in 2009 is not too early for Police Departments to consider.
